This training meets the requirement as put forth by the New York State SAVE legislation. It is intended for anyone pursuing NYS certification in teaching, administration and school services, as well as those already holding permanent certification.

Training includes:

  • Understanding the extent and nature of child maltreatment in the United States and New York State
  • Explain the legal framework for the New York State Child Protective System 
  • Define child abuse and maltreatment/neglect in New York State 
  • Highlight the physical and behavioral indicators commonly associated with child abuse and maltreatment/neglect
  • Effective reporting of child abuse or maltreatment/neglect to the New York State Central Register (SCR)
  • Evaluate situations to determine whether there is reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or maltreatment/neglect.

This training meets the requirement as put forth by New York State as of January 1991, stating any individual applying initially, or for the renewal of a license, registration, certificate, or limited permit for certain occupations complete the Child Abuse Identification and Reporting Course.

This is a mandated 2-hour course divided into 5 modules: 

  1. Sensitivity and Awareness 

  2. Legal Framework 

  3. Defining Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect and Indicators 

  4. Preparing to Report Child Abuse

  5. Reporting Abuse To The NYS Central Register

Participant Expectations: 

1.    Complete each module by reading each slide, listening to the voice over, and exploring accompanied links. 

·         Work through the training in sequence. The information is laid out to incrementally build your knowledge and skills.

·         Consider the learning objectives as you approach each section. Objectives indicate important information that you are being asked to master.

2.    After completing the 5 modules you must respond to the related activities/question(s). Participation in the activities/questions are necessary in order to receive a certificate of completion.

*We suggest completing the course in one time frame. However, your work will be saved and you may log in and out of the training as many times as you wish within 7 days.
